A 16-year-old boy, identified as Azeez Ganiyu has been accused of raping a two-year-old toddler, Precious (pseudonym).
According to Punch report, Azeez abducted the little girl from her residence on Giwa Street, Ijora Badia, Lagos State.
The child’s mother was said to have left her in a room with a neighbour to buy food at a nearby shop.
Precious was abducted when she walked outside to play with other children.
It was gathered that Azeez took her to an uncompleted building, not far from the house of the victim’s parents and raped her.
The incident which happened on April 16 at about 10a.m., left the girl’s mother and neighbours confused when they could not find her in the surroundings.
The little girl’s screams attracted her m0other, who traced it to the uncompleted building, where she allegedly met Ganiyu sexually abusing her daughter.
She was taken to a hospital where it was medically confirmed that she had been raped.
The police at the Ijora Badia police division later arrested Azeez and he was subsequently charged to court.
He was arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court on one count of rape.
Azeez pleaded not guilty after his charge was read to him.
Presiding over the matter, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya ordered that the defendant’s case file be transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
He also granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till May 5, 2015.
The alarming rate at which adults sexually abuse little children and teenagers is becoming a cause for concern. This incident occurs almost on a weekly basis. Most of the time, it is the hands of trusted relatives or neighbours.
There have been a number of rape cases recently.
About a month ago, a 32-year-old man, Uwem Femi Asuquo, was arrested for allegedly raping his 10-year-old niece inside a mosque.
Also, one Michael Oyejide, 24, was remanded in the Ibara prison for allegedly raping his 18-year-old girlfriend to death.
